How Azziad Nasenya ‘conquered’ cyberbullying

Azziad Nasenya says prayers and unwavering confidence helped her navigate the challenges of cyberbullying when she first gained fame in the digital landscape.

Azziad rose to prominence following her viral video challenge featuring the song ‘Utawezana.’

The immense popularity of her performance catapulted her into the spotlight.

Speaking during a confidence and self-empowerment conversation held at Kenyatta University, Azziad Nasenya reflected on her journey to success and her experience with cyberbullying.

“I have always been a confident person since I was a child. Over the years, I can say that my confidence has gradually increased, and I have become more self-aware. The person I am today is not the same as the person I was ten years ago, and certainly not the person I will be ten years from now. Confidence grows with time,” Azziad affirmed.

She also opened up about being body-shamed when people compared her old photos with her current ones. Despite the negativity, she kept her old photos as a reminder of her personal growth and journey to self-improvement.

Azziad shared her strategy for overcoming cyberbullying, emphasizing the role of prayer and the support of those close to her. She highlighted the significance of her family and friends, who consistently reminded her that she was the best version of herself.

On the topic of cyberbullying, she acknowledged the essential role her support system played in encouraging her to stay strong and maintain focus. Azziad offered words of wisdom to the youth, stating:

“I want every young person who knows my journey to understand that they can achieve their goals.”

Azziad who is currently the brand Ambassador for BIC was joined by Dermatologist Officer, Rebecca Chacha, and BIC East Africa Marketing Manager, Salome Ngugi in a panel that focused on self-confidence and empowerment.

Commenting on the continued success of the campaign, BIC East Africa Marketing Manager, Salome Ngugi, expressed her excitement about how the Wembesha na Bic initiative has had of impact since its inception.

“BIC is committed to continuing to bring the self-confidence and empowerment conversation to Kenya’s youth. Wembesha Na BIC, now in its second year has opened the door to thousands of Kenyan students who are benefiting from the behavioural change triggers that we are instilling in tomorrow’s generation.
