Exclusive: AFC Leopards eyeing former Kenyan international as Aussems’ replacement

AFC Leopards is reportedly considering a possible replacement for their current coach, Patrick Aussems, who may not renew his contract at the end of the 2022/2023 season.

The club’s chairman, Dan Shikanda, is said to be planning to hold talks with their former assistant coach, Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani, for the position.

Despite expressing their determination to keep coach Aussems, sources close to him have insinuated to Newsday Kenya  that he is not keen on extending his contract with the club.

“I don’t think Aussems will extend his contract. Various clubs are eyeing after him and he may leave Ingwe after our last match of the season,” a source said.

It is rumored that various African-based clubs are eyeing him for a coaching position.

If Aussems does leave at the end of the season, Anthony Kimani, who has previous experience with the club as an assistant coach, is being considered as a potential replacement.

“Considering the fact that he has no job, there are plans of bringing Modo back to the team. The club is having a plan B of contracting him once Aussems refuse to extend his contract,” a source close to Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda informed Newsday Kenya.

The club’s management appears to be preparing for the possibility of Aussems’ departure and are actively exploring potential replacements.
