“We have full confidence in Baba!” Ruto continues to back Raila’s AU bid despite the opposition leader’s recent criticisms

Despite Raila Odinga’s recent criticism aimed at the government, President William Ruto has expressed full confidence in the opposition leader’s ability to deliver effective leadership as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission. Speaking during a joint media briefing with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni at State House Nairobi, President Ruto appreciated Uganda for endorsing Odinga’s candidacy for the position.

“I have expressed to His Excellency, the people, and government of Uganda the appreciation of Kenyans for Uganda’s endorsement for Kenya’s candidate (Raila Odinga) for the African Union Commission chairperson, and assured him of our full confidence that our candidate will deliver effective leadership at the commission,” President Ruto stated.

During the meeting, the two heads of states also signed an agreement paving the way for the Uganda National Oil Company to import petroleum products through the port of Mombasa. This move is expected to strengthen economic ties between Kenya and Uganda and enhance regional cooperation.

President Ruto also highlighted the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Malaba, Kampala, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He praised the SGR extension as a crucial infrastructure project that will significantly contribute to bridging the gap in trade ties within the region, fostering economic growth and development.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni is in the country for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for collaboration between Kenya and Uganda.
