Police in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado county have recovered 26 bags of bhang worth Ksh6 million in a church.
The suspects were caught after area locals tipped the police, at the time, the suspects had slaughtered some goats and were feasting within the church environs.
The officers who believe that the goats slaughtered were also stolen from unsuspecting individuals also claimed that they recovered stolen goods such as electronics and furniture.
“Tumeshika suspects wengine but the main ones bado tutawakamata because walikua wametoroka. Very strangely kanisa ndio wanauzia watu bangi, wanauzia washirika, so we suspect watu wanakuja kanisa hii pia ni watu wanatumia bangi.
“Pia tumeona wanafanya ukora ingine kama ya kuiba. Tumepata vitu ya wizi, kama viti na electronics tumepata pia mbuzi walikua wanachinja. Walikua wanachinja mbuzi ili washerehekee and thats how also came to discover kuna bangi hii mahali,” police said.
This loosely translates to;
“We have arrested some suspects but we are yet to arrest the masterminds because they escaped. It’s strange that the church has been selling bhang to congregants.
“We have also discovered that they are involved in theft because we have recovered stolen goods such as furniture and electronics, we also caught them slaughtering goats to celebrate,”
While confirming that the suspects will be arraigned in court, the police expressed gratitude to citizens for working with the officers in taming the vice.
The officers also vowed to investigate the church members and arrest culprits involved in the business.
“Nataka kushukuru wananchi kwa sababu wametupea fursa kuwakamata. Wale wote wamehusika kwa hii cause najua members hawaezi toroka ni watu wanajulikana tunasuspect wote wanakula bangi so tutakamata kila mmoja mpaka tufungue mashtaka,” police added.
