6 Suspects Including 4 Police Officers Arrested in Ksh 2.2 Million Heist

Six suspects including four police officers have been arrested in connection to a robbery that saw a school accountant lose Ksh 2.2 million.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the six trailed the accountant from a bank in Utawala, and broke into his car making away with the money.

The six are said to have followed the accountant from when he arrived at the benk, withdrew the money and made his way back to the school.

When the accountant parked his vehicle outside the school to take some of the money inside, it is then when the suspects broke into the locked car and stole the money.

The accountant was shocked when he went back to pick more money only to find the car broken into and the money missing.

Detectives identified one of the suspects from a CCTV footage and noted that he had been picked earlier by unknown people driving a Subaru.

“Further intelligence led the team to the Kasarani station, where the six were ambushed in a GK vehicle and forced to identify themselves in the presence of the Sub-County Police Commander, his deputy and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer,” DCI added.

The suspects are identified as Sgt Antony Ndegwa Anwal, Cpl Daniel Lekakeny Sunkuli, PC Simon Macharia Maina (of DCI Kasarani), PC Antony Mwenda (KPS Ruai), Lukas Magwaga and Young Wakise.

“The six were arrested at the Kasarani Police Station public parking yard, by a combined team of sleuths from DCI Nairobi region and Kayole sub-county,” DCI said in a statement.

According to a written statement at Mihango Police Station, the money was supposed to be used to pay casual workers at the school.

Following the arrest of the six suspects, Ksh 473,000 which is believed to be part of the stolen money was recovered.

The officers further ransacked the car and recovered Ksh 350,000 and another Ksh 123,000 was retrieved from their pockets.

Two motor vehicles, one belonging to the Ruai officer and another belonging to a suspect which were parked in the yard, were detained.

In other news, Joseph Mungai Wanjira who is accused of killing a Chandarana Supermarket manager was arrested on Wednesday in Naivasha.

According to a police report, Hassan Abdullatif Salim who worked as a manager at the supermarket’s Buffalo Mall branch was killed on May 22, 2024.

He was discovered dead after failing to show up for work prompting his colleagues to look for him at his house where he is believed to have been living alone.

However, when the store’s supervisors located his house, they were shocked when they noticed blood drops on the doorway prompting them to alert the police.

Police from Naivasha arrived at the scene and after forcing entry into the house, they found Hassan’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the floor.

After studying the CCTV footage, DCI detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect eventually leading to his arrest on Wednesday.
