Mammito Loses Substantial Number of Followers on Instagram Over Controversial ‘Jowie’ Parody Song

Comedian Eunice Mammito found herself in hot water  after posting a skit on her social media platforms that sparked outrage among Kenyans.

The skit, which came shortly after Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu was handed a death sentence for the murder of Monica Kimani in 2018, made light of the serious nature of the conviction.

In the skit, Mammito encouraged Jowie to view his jail term as an opportunity to scam Kenyans, alongside several other tasteless jokes about the conviction.

The timing and content of the skit drew widespread condemnation from netizens, who accused the comedian of being insensitive and disrespectful towards the memory of the deceased victim, Monica Kimani.

Some Kenyans even went ahead and unfollowed and blocked her on her Instagram page.

Despite the online backlash, Mammito chose not to pull down the video, which further fueled criticism against her. In response to the mounting condemnation, Mammito issued a statement that seemed to downplay the seriousness of the situation

“I have witnessed a very rare occurrence something that has not happened since 2002 people from every background uniting together for a reason, to cook me. It gives me hope for the future that one day we shall unite and fight against corruption and other things ailing our country. Am in hot fire now, my soul weeps . I am but a small thin woman with no buttocks and am not as attractive, how dare I joke about a beautiful accused person, but your unity how it fills my soul!”

The response has equally attracted ridicule, with some accusing Mammito of looking for sympathy after the mess she created.
