Isebania town on Sunday, May 21, witnessed raging chaos as anti-riot police officers countered protesters who were demonstrating against increased criminal activities in the area.

The protesters noted that a gang of criminals had attacked and chopped off the hand of a local businessman, yet the suspected robbers were yet to be arrested.

It was reported that the man’s hand was chopped off as he attempted to defend himself from the wounds he sustained as a result of the beatings by the criminals.

“My friend Mwangi lost his property and hand because the police have not taken their work seriously in order to tackle crime in this town where people are killed almost on a daily basis,” one protester lamented.

“The robbers took everything that he had and they were operating boldly,” the protester stated as he called on the police to attend to the growing criminal activities in Isebania.

In a separate incident, another unidentified businessman also lost Ksh500,000 to suspected robbers during a robbery within the town center.

Those who witnessed the attack told the media that they were helpless because the gang seemed to be very brave and savage in its activities.

“Every day, people are attacked in Isebania. Recently, someone was attacked and robbed almost Ksh500,000 and chopped off his hand.

“Yesterday, evening (around 6 pm) before people had closed their shops, thugs came and attacked traders,” complained Businessman Matiko Bohoko.

Isebania police officers, as a result, revealed that they were investigating the incident where a businessman was shot dead by robbers who raided his premises and stole goods worth millions of shillings.

Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala told the press on the sidelines of the protests that police officers were already pursuing viable leads in order to apprehend the suspected criminals.

Wanjala warned the criminals that they will have nowhere to hide since he was coordinating with the members of the local communities to ensure that the robbers were brought to book.

The county commander also asked members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and adhere to laws that regulate protest and picketing.

“We want to assure the public that this area is safe for doing business for everyone and criminals will be arrested,” Wanjala stated as he addressed the media during the protest.

Isebania residents, on the other hand, accused the police of laxity and asked President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to intervene.
