Davido Reveals How His Father’s Decision Forced Him to Sue K24 Over April Fool’s Prank

In an exclusive interview on Sway in the Morning, hosted by U.S.-based radio station Shade 45, Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido shed light on the factors that led him to change his stance and pursue legal action against Kenyan media outlet K24 TV.

Davido opened up about the personal and professional pressures he faced, which ultimately compelled him to take legal recourse against K24 TV following their April Fools’ joke falsely alleging his arrest for drug possession.

Initially, Davido had intended to brush off the prank, considering it as just another April Fools’ gag.

However, the situation escalated rapidly when his father reached out to him in concern after hearing the news.

Recalling the intensity of his father’s worry, Davido recounted, “My dad was calling me asking, ‘Where you at?’ I’m like, I’m in Nigeria, I’m home.”

This pivotal moment made Davido reassess his initial nonchalant attitude.

He began to grasp the broader repercussions of the situation, realizing the potential harm such unfounded rumors could inflict on his international travel and reputation.

“And at first, I was like nah I’m not gonna report it, just let it go its April Fools and my dad was like no because you can fly to any country now and then they bring 20 police to check you,” Davido shared.

Concerned about the looming risk, Davido made the decision to pursue legal action to safeguard his image and mitigate the possibility of similar incidents in the future.

“I’m taking legal action because it might just go the wrong way if we just don’t,” he explained.

Through his legal representative, Davido is seeking several remedies from K24 TV, including the removal of defamatory content, a cease and desist from defamation, a public apology, an admission of liability, and compensation for legal expenses.
