Verbal Abuse and Insults: AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems in hot water

AFC Leopards tactician Patrick Aussems has been making headlines lately for his controversial behavior and statements.

Despite having a successful coaching career and managing teams in countries like Tanzania, Sudan, and South Africa, Aussems has struggled to succeed with Leopards, who have been struggling to compete with other top teams in the Kenyan Premier League.

Despite this, his recent behavior has overshadowed his coaching abilities and negatively impacted him.

Aussems has been involved in several incidents, including an altercation with another coach after a match, abusive language directed at a journalist, and referring to referees as “clowns.”

In a post-match interview after a draw between Leopards and Sofapaka, Aussems became angry with Sofapaka’s assistant coach, David Ouma, and insulted him by calling him “stupid.” The altercation led to the intervention of police and stewards to calm the situation.

Similarly, after a recent match against Nzoia Sugar, Leopards assistant coach Tom ‘Gaza’ Juma was red-carded, and when a journalist who mistakenly asked him why he did not leave the field, he responded by calling the journalist “stupid.”

The Belgian coach’s behavior has not gone unnoticed, and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has taken action.

The FKF Chief Executive, Barry Otieno, has stated that the incident will be forwarded to the Disciplinary Committee, allowing Aussems to explain his side of the story.

However, this is not the first time that Aussems has engaged in such behavior, and it raises serious questions about his ability to maintain a professional conduct.

In addition to his behavior towards other coaches, referees, and journalists, Aussems has also shown a lack of respect for local media. After their 6-o win against AFC Talanta, Aussems walked to the post-match interview and said since Kenyan journalists don’t understand his English, he would answer their questions in French, which he did to the bewilderment of the journalists who were covering the match.

His behavior has cast a negative light on himself and the club he coaches, and he must take steps to rectify the situation.

The Football Kenya Federation has taken the necessary action by forwarding the incident to the Disciplinary Committee. It remains to be seen what measures will be taken to address Aussems’ behavior.
