The political climate in Kenya has been tumultuous in recent months, with opposition leader Raila Odinga and his supporters calling for various reforms and protesting against the government.

The latest protests on Thursday saw the “Ruto must go” chant becoming a major part of Raila Odinga’s stop in Imara Daima.

Shortly after his address alongside his co-principals, his supporters started chanting the words, as the Azimio convoy moved forward.

The chant refers to President William Ruto, whom they  accused him of corruption and criticized his leadership style.

The planned mega rally at Jacaranda grounds was cordoned off by anti-riot police officers, preventing the opposition from gathering.

This is the third anti-government protest in the country, following the first on March 20, 2023. T

he opposition leader had intended to lead protests in Nairobi’s Central Business District but had to divert to Mathare after police blocked all roads leading to the city center.

During Monday’s demos, Raila was in Kawanagware and later terminated his journey in Kibra.

Unfortunately, the protests have led to lives lost and property destroyed in various parts of the country. Despite the risks, Raila and his allies demand electoral reforms, lowering the cost of living, and inclusion in the IEBC Commissioners’ hiring process.
