One of the journalists from Nation Media Group’s NTV recounted his narrow escape from a mob of protesters who attacked him on Monday, March 27, in Kibra.

Vincent Oduor and other journalists were covering the Azimio la Umoja demonstrations when an angry mob began pelting them with stones, demanding that they vacate the scene.

The protesters accused the media of taking pictures and submitting them to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for future arrests.

In the chaos that ensued, police officers reportedly beat up the journalists for taking pictures of the confrontation between the police and the protesters.

The media crew escaped into their van for safety, but Oduor was left behind when the van sped off.

Oduor was cornered by the protesters, who were baying for his blood. In a stroke of luck, he resorted to his mother tongue, and a number of the protesters shared the same native language.

The protesters soon realized that he meant no harm, and their rage turned into a caveat of protection.

Under the protection of the protesters, Oduor was escorted to safety where he was accorded respect and assisted to trace back his colleagues.

The protesters also attacked Citizen TV Press Corps and dismantled their equipment, some of which were stolen.
