No Gengetone, Arbantone : Comedian Oga Obinna reveals strict guidelines for his children

Comedian and digital content creator Oga Obinna has shared some strict guidelines he has implemented for his four children, particularly concerning their media and music consumption. The father of four made it clear that certain types of music, such as Arbarntone and Gengetone, are strictly prohibited in his household.

Despite allowing his children to own mobile phones, Obinna says he actively monitors their devices to oversee their interactions and the content they access while online. He emphasized that he holds open communication with his children, often discussing the reasons behind enforcing these restrictions.

“In my house there are rules. Without rules there is indiscipline. There are rules everywhere. My kids don’t watch certain things they know, for example, Gengetone music does not play in my house, even Abarntone. I listen to it and I can create it, but they know,” Obinna explained.

One notable measure he has taken involves his eldest son, whose phone has been stripped of its SIM card to prevent him from engaging in potentially harmful group chats with friends.

“The reason is, I reason with my kids. I sit down with them and explain if you do this, this will happen. You know the Kimani Mbugua video? My son is watching it so that he can learn…all my kids have phones but usiku wakiwa wamelala napiga tero (when they are asleep at night, I go through their phones).” He said.

He continued, “there was a time I took my son’s phone away. Even now he has an iPhone without a SIM card…because of group chats from school. So I gave him a phone with everything but without a SIM card. So he can’t chat with school friends.”

Oga Obinna received a lot of praises after he adopted two kids, a boy and a girl from a Nairobi children’s home late last year.
