“Madhabahu Hayachezewi” Musician Nadia Mukami criticizes Pastor Kanyari for receiving condoms, Arimis as offering

Musician Nadia Mukami has joined a long list of Kenyans in voicing disapproval over a recent incident involving controversial Pastor Kanyari, who accepted unconventional gifts during a church service. The incident has sparked a heated debate among netizens and religious circles alike.

Taking to her Instagram, Nadia Mukami expressed her discontent by describing the video as “cringe.” She added, “Kuna limits ya madhabahu. Hii Content Creation Iwe Na Mipaka Jamani! If Not For The Respect Of The Church And Our Religion, But For The Fear Of God! Madhabahu Hayachezewi!!”

The controversy began when a female TikToker, Faith M Peters, presented Pastor Kanyari with condoms, Kotex panty liners, and Arimis petroleum jelly during a Sunday service. Her actions left the congregation and online audiences both amused and appalled.

Faith’s bold gesture didn’t stop at the unconventional gifts. She publicly confessed her love for Pastor Kanyari, leaving him visibly flustered. Faith revealed she had a dream about marrying him and warned him to use protection due to the many women vying for his attention.

Her comments included, “Naona wanawake wanataka sana Pastor Kanyari, nimemletea kinga ya maisha. Tumia kinga daddy, usikatae wanawake,” and further, “Nataka utoke kwa Rish Kamunge kuja hapa. Wacha kunyonga hii tunaweka kando. Niko na kizazi. Hawa watoto wa US tuongeze watoto wengine. Nimechoka.”

The incident has drawn mixed reactions from netizens. Some have criticized Faith for her lack of respect towards the sanctity of the church, suggesting such behavior should be reserved for other venues, while also criticizing Pastor Kanyari for orchestrating the act for social media views and clout chasing. One netizen remarked, “This is too much. Eiish mnaenda spidi sana hamwogopi hata man of God,” while another questioned, “Condom kwa kanisa?? Pator yawa.”

Pastor Kanyari, who recently announced his single status, has frequently been in the spotlight for his contentious activities. His presence on TikTok has further fueled his controversial image, as he regularly engages with socialites and individuals of questionable morals. Another controversial moment involved Kanyari’s infamous “exorcism” attempt on a TikTok live,  aimed at a gay TikToker named Mpenzi Chokuu. Chokuu was dressed in a black buibui robe when Kanyari launched his praying act.

The “prayer” was a perplexing mix of religious pronouncements and military jargon, with Kanyari shouting “fire!” and calling grenades and machine guns.Chokuu was meanwhile vigorously shaking his behind in response to Kanyari’s mock exorcism. While some viewers found it humorous, others condemned the perceived disrespect for religion.

In response to previous criticisms, Pastor Kanyari defended his actions, stating that his motivations for joining TikTok were not about personal gain. “Joining the platform is not going to make me rich if I’m not already rich,” he said in an earlier interview. “I joined TikTok because I noticed that it is mostly the younger generation and I wanted to reach out and save some lives. There are a lot of tragedies and I think we can make a difference. There are a lot of drug addicts on the platform and I hope to help and guide them.” He said

Pastor Kanyari is not new to controversy. A long while ago, Kanyari became famous due to his widely spread “panda mbegu” initiative, where he was said to extort money from his unexpecting followers and church goers. He promised the gives that miracles would happen in their lives after giving the generous donations. Kanyari currently preaches in several television stations that he owns, where he continues to spread his doctrines and solicit for offerings promising givers miracles in return.
