Kenyan lady Latifah Musa has drawn attention by sharing the unconventional story of her pet snake, which she affectionately calls ‘Nyoka wa Pesa’, meaning the snake with money in Swahili.

In a recent interview with Bongo Touch, Latifah unveiled the rationale behind her choice of companion and its significance in her life.

Latifah explained that her decision to keep a snake stemmed from her tumultuous financial circumstances and the pressure of being the provider for her family.

“I personally suffered because I am the one relied upon in the family… I struggled a lot, and that’s why I even considered entering into prostitution to earn money,” she confided.

Before discovering her unusual solution, Latifah faced constant financial strain. It was only through a friend’s introduction to an anonymous individual promising an escape from poverty that her fortunes began to change.

“I met this friend who told me that there’s a place they could take me if I wasn’t afraid, and that’s where I got this snake… There’s a specialist who can help, and you’ll succeed in everything. I didn’t believe it at first because it was tough in the beginning,” Latifah recounted.

Despite her initial reluctance, Latifah took a leap of faith, and the outcome transformed her life for the better. Her pet snake, symbolically named for its association with prosperity, became a tangible representation of her newfound fortune.

The phenomenon of keeping snakes as pets is not unique to Latifah.

Across various cultures, snakes have been revered as symbols of wealth, fertility, and wisdom. Ancient civilizations like Egypt regarded snakes as both protectors and symbols of fertility, contributing to their association with prosperity.
