Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua and former Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture Peter Munya were on Wednesday forced to board a boda boda after being ‘denied access to a hotel’ in Meru during the countrywide protests by supporters of Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya Coalition.
In a video that was widely shared on social media, Ms Karua, who was dressed in a patched blue dress, and Mr Munya were captured boarding a boda boda before the rider sped off to an unknown destination.
The leaders were scheduled to lead anti-government protests in Meru, but the police kept on their trail before blocking them from accessing the hotel.
On Wednesday, the country experienced widespread protests in different counties including Nairobi, Nyeri, Busia, Nakuru, Kitale, Kisii, Migori, Mombasa, Kisumu and Makueni.
In Mlolongo, police lobbed teargas to disperse rowdy youths who were protesting the killing of one person during the demos.
In Busia County, former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya’s car was damaged by rowdy youths during the protests.
According to Mr Oparanya, rowdy youths pelted his car with stones as they were heading to home of Matayos MP, Geoffrey Odanga.
“We were heading to Mheshimiwa’s home for some tea but the youth started chasing us while throwing stones at us,” Oparanya said.
