Shadrack Mitty, a senior news reporter for KTN and Standard Group, has died.
Mitty died at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) of heart-related issues, according to preliminary findings.
Mitty’s media career was highlighted by his employment at Nation Media Group where he worked as a correspondent for Qtv from 2012 to 2016.
His move to KTN reinforced his image as a devoted and capable journalist.
The news of Mitty’s death sparked an outpouring of grief and emotional tributes from his colleagues and peers.
Reacting to Mitty’s death, former NTV political journalist Kennedy Muriithi expressed his profound sorrow at the loss of his friend saying, “I am gutted. I am lost. I have woken to the sad news on the passing on of my great friend and colleague in the journalism field
“A fine multi-lingual journalist whom we started with at QTV before he transitioned to KTN. I write go well brother, but this one has hit me hard. Our phone call of 10th May is now replaying in my mind. Rest ndugu, rest.”
On the other hand, ODM Communication Director Philip Etale also remembered Mitty highlighting his dedication and passion for journalism.

“He was dedicated and never shied from asking as many questions as possible to understand the story for informed dissemination to the masses. The media industry has lost a good man,” Etale wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Mitty’s death comes a month following the death of former KTN News anchor Michael Oyier.
Oyier died while being treated at a Nairobi hospital, according to his relatives.
The seasoned journalist spent nine years as an anchor and broadcaster for Standard Group before leaving in 2012.
He later began offering counselling services and eventually became an executive leadership coach till his death as he was also a qualified psychologist.
Oyier was the second child in a family of five and is survived by his two children.
He had a successful career in journalism spanning over a decade despite having studied Psychology and Management at university.
He started at Capital FM before moving to KTN where he had an illustrious nine-year stay before quitting in 2012 to practice counselling, his first passion.
