Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has disclosed that the government will fire around 50 chiefs in the Mount Kenya region.
Gachagua was speaking at the Mukùùne Home of Tigania West MP John Mùtunga where he said 50 chiefs from the region will be fired for laxity in following government orders.
“I started in Central Kenya. We have many chiefs there, and next week we want to fire 50 of them to set the right environment to work,” Gachagua said.
The second in command inquired about the number of chiefs and assistant chiefs in Meru saying if they fire only 10% it will serve the purpose because some of them do not want to work.
“Here in Meru, how many chiefs and Assistant chiefs do you have? When we fire 10% of them there is no problem. Some will not work as we instruct them, we will have to show them the door,” he explained.
Gachagua has been closely working with chiefs and police officers to hunt down illicit brew distillers in the region claiming that they are destroying the lives of young people by selling the alcohol to them.
