Pastor Kanyari: why ‘G bug na Jug’ hitmaker Stoopid Boy is my favorite artiste

The controversial Pastor Victor Kanyari, founder of the Salvation Healing Ministry, has made headlines once again by revealing his favorite Kenyan artiste. In a recent interview with SPM Buzz, Kanyari revealed the artist, a revelation that has sparked a wave of interest and discussion among fans of both Kanyari and the popular musician.

Kanyari when asked about his favorite Kenyan artiste, he named “G bug na Jug'” hit maker Stoopid Boy, praising his great music. “Napenda Ngoma zake sana,” Kanyari said, confessing to have fallen in love with Stoopid Boy’s hits.

Stoopid Boy himself has been a hot topic in recent weeks, particularly after his controversial no-show on Dr. Ofweneke’s popular program. The host took to social media to express his disappointment, revealing that Stoopid Boy had initially confirmed his attendance but backed out in the last minute, demanding payment for his appearance. The artist later set the record straight, insisting that he would only participate in TV and radio interviews if compensated with KSh 100,000.

In an interview, Stoopid Boy elaborated on his stance: “Siku hizi pesa imeanza kuingia juu ya kuongea, wasanii wengi hawaongeangi hata nikisema ten bob nakupima, mimi saa hizi nataka Ksh 100,000 (Nowadays, artists earn money from speaking engagements; many artists don’t speak up for free. If I mention ten bob, I’ll be lying to you. Now, I want KSh 100,000).”

Kanyari’s choice for his favorite artist has however not sat well with a section of Netizens, who criticized him for not picking a gospel artist as his favorite despite being a pastor.

Kanyari, who became infamous in 2015 after a KTN exposé labeled him a rogue man of God, opened up about various aspects of his life during the interview. Reflecting on his past, Kanyari shared his biggest regret: “Wakati nilishikwa na scandal ya 310 (When I was caught up in the 310 scandal).” Despite the controversy, Kanyari has remained a prominent figure, particularly on TikTok, where he has so far earned Ksh 400,000 in gifts from his followers.

When asked if he could change anything about his life, Kanyari expressed a desire for universal prosperity: “Watu wote wangekuwa na pesa (Everyone could be rich).” Kanyari has journeyed from loading construction stones onto lorries to becoming a flashy city pastor.
