Mugambi Nandi: Chuka Native Behind Nairobi-based Law Firm Setting the Bar High in England and Wales

When Mugambi Nandi’s law firm, KN Law LLP, established a branch and moved one of its partners to London, England, it made history as the first Nairobi-based legal firm to achieve this milestone.

KN Law LLP Senior Partner and Kenya’s Leading Corporate M&A Lawyer ranked by Chambers & Partners five years in a row, Mugambi Nandi, recently joined the ranks of dual qualified advocates of the High Court of Kenya following admission to the Roll of Solicitors of the Senior Courts of England and Wales.

Nandi was named one of just three elite Kenyan lawyers specialising in corporate mergers and acquisitions who practiced law overseas in 2021.

“This boy from Chuka is now a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales. Fact; It was not a life goal. I just woke up one day at the start of the lockdown last year and decided to make good use of all the time I suddenly had in my hands,” he wrote.

With more than 25 years of experience in the legal field, Nandi has held positions as a company secretary, in-house attorney and member of corporate boards in both the public and private sectors.

He has worked on M&A, private equity, capital market, and corporate finance deals totaling more than KES 100 billion throughout the years.

As a result of his peers’ and clients’ appreciation for his legal advising work, Chambers Global has been ranking and recognising him annually since 2017.

Nandi holds qualifications in law and financial management LL.B, MBA, Dip. Law and Dip.FM and is a Certified Public Secretary and Certified Governance Auditor.

He has served as a Member of the Kenyatta University Council, Board Member of the Privatization Commission of Kenya, Communications Authority of Kenya, Seriani Asset Managers Limited, and Mayfair CIB Bank Limited.

Previously, Nandi worked for the Standard Bank Group of South Africa as the Head of Legal/Company Secretary for the Kenyan operations and the East African Development Bank as Legal Counsel.

He was listed as a Recognised Practitioner in the Corporate & Commercial Law rankings for Kenya by Chambers Global in 2017 and 2018.

According to part of the citation, he has been ranked in Chambers Global for 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Clients value his sharp legal mind, speed of response and availability and capacity to see a commercial perspective on a transaction as well as a legal one.
