Mary Wairimu is the visionary behind Jahay Coffee, a beverage crafted from black beans, commonly referred to as Njahi.
Originating from Nakuru County, this entrepreneur developed the product to provide local consumers with an alternative to traditional coffee.
Through her non-caffeinated coffee, Wairimu aims to enhance the local processing and manufacturing sector.
In addition to the black beans, she incorporates various herbs from India to create a comprehensive product that offers a unique experience for her clientele.
“Jahay, prepared similarly to other hot beverages using hot water and milk, sweetened to individual preference, is designed to uplift your spirits and energize you in a wholesome and friendly manner. It enables you to undertake demanding tasks and engage in cognitive work with resilience,” Wairimu stated.
The coffee is beneficial in managing arthritis and aids in regulating blood sugar levels, cleansing the digestive system, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, strengthening bones, and enhancing milk production in nursing mothers.
“This coffee uniquely addresses addiction by diminishing cravings and alleviating withdrawal symptoms associated with various dependencies,” Wairimu added.
The beverage enjoys popularity not only in Kenya but also in other nations throughout East Africa, including Tanzania.
Njahi is rich in protein, folate, iron, Vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus.
“This caffeine-free product, derived from the nutrient-dense Kenyan black bean (Njahi), is abundant in proteins, iron, calcium, magnesium, folate, complex carbohydrates, and fiber,” Wairimu elaborated.
