Malkia Strikers settled for an unusual 2-2 draw against Mexico in their final friendly match today ahead of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Challenger Cup in Laval.
The Kenyans are in the French town for the eight-team tournament that serves off tomorrow. Malkia Strikers are not in action until Friday when they will face Colombia in the quarters.
Kenya led 2-0 (20-25, 14-25) but the Mexicans fought back to level the score at after 25-11 and 25-14 wins in the third and fourth quarters.
The need for a fifth quarter was foregone as both sides felt there was no need to push into those limits in a friendly and on the eve of a tournament.
The match against Mexico was Malkia Strikers’ third friendly having beaten Morocco twice in their home turf before departing for France on Tuesday.
Hosts France, Croatia, Mexico, Sweden, Ukraine and Vietnam are the other teams in the tournament.
