DP Ruto cancels rally, changes route after Bungoma youths turn violent

Deputy president William Ruto was on Monday afternoon forced to cancel a public rally and change his route after youths in Bungoma town turned violent and barricaded roads.

The rally had been scheduled to be held at the Bungoma bus stage. DP Ruto had already addressed a rally in Mumias and was headed to the Bungoma bus stage.

He was forced to turn away at the main Mumias road, going through Mateka- Siritanyi then Kanduyi.

The youths chanted pro NASA and pro ODM slogans vowing that the deputy president would address them. They also destroyed Jubilee campaign materials that had been given by Governor Kenneth’s Lusaka team.

DP Ruto later addressed a rally at Kanduyi market. Ruto’s visit came barely a day after Amani National Congress leader Musalia Muadavdi toured the region.
