Donald Trump beats Hillary Clinton to win US Presidency

Donald Trump is set to succeed Barack Obama as the president of the United States of America after unleashing a shocking defeat on Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

By the time we went to press, Donald Trump had a 95 per cent of clinching the presidency compared to Hillary Clinton’s 5 per cent.

With 42 states called, Donald Trump had garnered 244 electoral college votes compared with Hillary Clinton’s 215. However, things seemed to dim for the former first lady as Donald steered clear in the remaining key states.

Shockingly, Mrs. Clinton lost in states that President Barack Obama had won in 2012. Mr. Trump’s victory was widely anchored by a larger-than-expected white male electorate who backed him.

Donald Trump scored a run of significant projected victories Tuesday night in the battlegrounds of Wisconsin, Iowa, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio, swiftly complicating Hillary Clinton’s path as she trailed the Republican nominee in the electoral-vote count.

He held on to hold the electoral-vote lead as he nears the necessary 270 to win. His victory in Florida comes in the biggest and most significant battleground state that was the most shocking. And in winning Wisconsin, he becomes the first Republican presidential candidate to win the state since 1984; it was a major setback for Clinton, who was widely expected to win there.

“We’re feeling buoyant,” Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told Fox News.

The win disputed national opinion polls across the country which had shown that Hillary Clinton would win.
