KCB RFC Head Coach Curtis Olago has said his team is now focusing on the upcoming semifinals after losing 10-14 to Kabras Sugar in a closely contested Kenya Cup tie.
It was KCB Rugby who struck first through Darwin Mukidza’s lightning speed. Trevor Odawa managed the conversion to see the Bankers take an early 7-0 lead. The try served as a morale-booster to the Sugarmen who responded with a five-pointer thanks to captain George Nyambua. Ntabeni Dukisa’s conversion fell short.
The match was on, and both sides kept piling pressure on each other, forcing them to stay in their danger zones. The Bankers succumbed to the pressure and soon it was Festus Shiasi heading to the naughty chair for a high tackle on Ntabeni Dukisa.
The Sugarmen then capitalized on their numerical advantage to score a penalty through Dukisa. That would be the final business for the opening half. The scores were 8-7 at the interval.
The hosts came breathing fire in the closing half to extend their lead with Dukisa successfully converting two penalties within five minutes, bringing the score to 14-7. The second half saw both sides exchange yellow cards. Walter and Kolian Persian were sent off for 10 minutes.
In the dying minutes of the game, Mukidza showcased his prowess with a penalty kick which would be the last score for the day to see the full-time score at 14-10 in favor of Kabras RFC.
“There are a lot of positives to pick from this match, the boys played well especially our props and utility back Darwin whose experience brought stability to the team. Our attention now shifts to the semifinals, and we need to correct a few mistakes, hopefully, we will be back at the forest for the finals,”
said Curtis Olago.
The bankers will meet Kenya Harlequin or Menengai Oilers in the semis.
