Charlene Ruto, daughter to President William Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto has taken to social media to explain her absence from the United States of America state visit. In an emotional message, Charlene expressed deep pride and admiration for her family’s achievements and their steadfast commitment to serving Kenya.
Why Charlene Ruto Stayed Behind
While President William Ruto, First Lady Rachel Ruto, and their daughters June, Stephanie, and Cullie were in the spotlight during their visit to Tyler Perry Studios in US, Charlene’s absence was notable and raised questions among Kenyans. Many speculated on why she did not join her family on this trip.
Charlene, who is known for her vocal advocacy and passion for youth empowerment, however remained in Kenya to continue with her initiatives aimed at supporting young people. Unlike her siblings, Charlene chose to stay and further her work and her commitment to making an impact at home.
Charlene Ruto’s Message to Her Family
Upon the first family’s return to Kenya on Saturday, May 25, 2024, Charlene shared her reflections on the historic U.S visit through a series of social media posts. She expressed immense pride and joy for her family’s accomplishments.
“The long-awaited U.S. state visit was a HUGE success for the progression of our great motherland! To say that I am proud of my family would be an understatement. I am bursting with awe, joy, and wonder!” She wrote.

Charlene also praised the leadership and sacrifices of her parents, saying, “Paps and Mama, you truly are the leaders that we as Kenyans needed. You took the difficult road, made endless sacrifices, and slept knowing you are making strides towards the great assignment God has given you for our nation. This was a big milestone in that journey, congrats!”
Charlene went further to commend her sisters June, Stephanie, and Cullie for their grace and elegance during the U.S. visit.
“So proud of my sisters for representing my siblings and I so well with such elegant poise and charm like the remarkable women they are!” She said.
The President Ruto’s State Visit to the United States saw the penning of several deals between Kenya and US in various sectors like health, security, education, infrastructure, entertainment, business, technology and governance. President Ruto and his delegation also made several key engagements, one being their visit to Tyler Perry Studios to bolster the creative industry in Kenya. The trip also aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations between Kenya and US and elevate Kenya’s presence on the global stage.
