The newly elected officials of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) South Rift region concluded a two-day induction workshop at PCEA Dr Arthur Alpha Resort, focusing on service delivery, national cohesion, and constitutional reforms.

Key Highlights:

  1. Call for Service Over Politics:
    • Leaders addressed the negative impact of early political campaigns on national cohesion and service delivery.
    • Urged political leaders to prioritize health and education sectors, citing non-operational health facilities and school closures in Baringo and Samburu counties.
    • Challenged the national government to resolve security issues in affected regions.
  2. Opposition to Punitive Taxes in Finance Bill 2024:
    • Quoted Exodus 22:22-23, urging MPs to reject the Finance Bill 2024 in its current form, which they believe imposes heavy burdens on citizens.
    • Encouraged public engagement with the Department Committee on Finance and National Planning.
  3. Advocacy for Inclusive Electoral Reforms:
    • Criticized the ongoing implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report without sufficient public consultation.
    • Called for the publication of the NADCO report and nationwide public input sessions.
  4. Urgent Reconstitution of IEBC:
    • Highlighted the delay in reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as a threat to democratic processes.
    • Urged President William Ruto and stakeholders to expedite the appointment of IEBC Commissioners to ensure proper representation and boundary reviews.

Conclusion:

The workshop emphasized the need for peace, cohesion, and dignified livelihoods in the region, inspired by 1 Thessalonians 4:11. The leaders committed to using their platforms for public education on critical issues and reforms.

May God bless the South Rift Region and the entire nation of Kenya.
