WRC Safari Rally good for the economy says Kcb CEO

The ongoing WRC Safari Rally has injected fresh impetus into Kenya’s economy, lifting the hospitality and tourism sectors, KCB Group CEO Paul Russo has said.

The 2021 world showpiece event is estimated to have pumped in over Kshs.6 billion into the economy with beneficiaries cutting across the hospitality sector, tourism, and Micro and Small Enterprises (MSMEs) among others.

Speaking during the third day of the 2022 WRC Safari Rally in Soysambu Mr. Russo said: “We are living in unprecedented times owing to the economic downturn envisioned by the Covid-19  pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. The rally comes in handy to boost our economy as we expect it to pump more money this year. This injection will trickle down to the lowest of businesses in the area around.” Said Russo.

Mr. Russo also emphasized that the bank is keen on allowing local drivers to participate in global competitions to elevate Kenyan sports to elite levels.

“Our investment in sports in the country especially motorsports cements the need to further support our local sportsmen and women as it not only brings fortunes to the country but also puts us on the global map as a sports behemoth.”

KCB is sponsoring two local drivers Evans Kavisi and Nikhil Sachania who are competing in the WRC3 category in the ongoing Safari Rally that comes to an end tomorrow.

Kalle Rovanpera extended his lead after the first loop in the Soysambu stage that runs through Sleeping warriors and ends in Elementaita.
