Some 6 months ago, William Kimani, a dog whisperer based in Nairobi, elicited mixed reactions when revealing how much money he makes from walking dogs.
In a viral TikTok video, he startled people by revealing that he earns up to Ksh 470,000 per month from his dog business.
At the time, Kimani maintained that he had 47 clients who paid Kimani Ksh 10,000 each month to walk, groom, and train their dogs for at least an hour each.
“This is for the walks and other services I provide them.” Remember, I also have to go to different neighbourhoods every day and pay for my monthly insurance, which costs around Ksh 36,000,” he stated.
Kimani stated that he inherited his passion of dogs from his father, who would care for animals at their house in Kiambu County in his spare time.
He stated that he wanted to pursue a career in the subject, but his family persuaded him to take an electronics course.

However, Kimani later altered his professional path.
“I worked in the field for about a year but was dissatisfied because it was boring, so I decided to return to school and pursue my veterinary dream,” he said.
Kimani used his prior employment savings to enrol at a local institution and pursue a study in veterinary care.
“I went back to school to study animal husbandry, but instead of focusing on veterinary services, I chose to study animal therapy. So, I can examine your animal, observe its behaviour, and tell you what it requires before referring you to the appropriate professional,” he explained.
After finishing the brief course, he began raising other animals, including cows and dogs, before deciding to specialise in dog training.
Kimani has progressed through the stages in the two years that he has been actively involved in dog training, walking, and caring.
He stated that instruction is tailored to the needs of his clientele, who come from all across the country.
“When I arrive home in the evening, I am generally fatigued. I don’t say anything; I just eat, shower, and go to bed because I have to start work at 5 a.m. the next day,” he added.
