KCB volleyball queens eyes second league title in a Row

National Volleyball Defending Champions KCB are in search of a second league title in a row when the Munala-led team takes on Kenya Prisons in the Kenya Volleyball Federation League playoffs finals this weekend.

The bankers, who won the coveted league title last year after a 15-year wait are keen on extending their impressive run when they clash with their rivals under the tutelage of Josp Baraza.

Speaking during a training session at the Kasarani Stadium, KCB Head Coach Japheth Munala asked his charges not to rest on their laurels if they are to reclaim the title.

“We are training for the final match of this season’s playoffs. We are meeting an experienced team, it is going to be a tough match but we are preparing well to win it. So far, we are working on our services, defense, and offense,” noted Munala.

KCB qualified for the finals after an excellent run in the playoffs – they defeated Kenya Army with a commanding 3-1 victory in the second leg of the quarters after dispatching them 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, and 25-18) in the first leg.

In the semifinals that were held last weekend, the team triumphed 3-2 over a resilient DCI side in the first leg of the semis. In the return leg, the bankers showed their might after sweeping the detectives 3-0 (25-20, 20-19, and 25-9) to seal a spot in the finals.

“We are struggling with injuries at the moment, our captain has a swollen knee but we are hopeful she will be back before the match. Our right attacker is injured while Chumba is overcoming her injury. We remain optimistic we will play well and win the championship again,” added Munala.

The team will lock horns with their opponents on Friday at 2 pm in the first leg before facing them again at the same time on Saturday, where both matches will be played at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
