Prof. Gilbert Ogutu, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, has been found dead in his rural home at Wambasa village in Bondo, Siaya County.
The body of the university don, who was an Associate Professor of Church History, was discovered by his worker on Sunday at 9 am in what is suspected to be suicide.
Confirming the incident, Central Yimbo Location Chief Gordon Opundo said Prof. Ogutu’s body was found hanging on the window of his bedroom with a leso tied around his neck.
The administrator said the professor on Friday went home with his second wife and the two were together until Saturday evening when she is reported to have left for Kisumu.
According to Mr. Opundo, Prof. Ogutu seemed alright and did not have any problem until around midnight when he retired to bed only for his employee to find his lifeless body when he went to wake him up after preparing his bathwater.
Investigations have since been launched into the matter and the body of the deceased transferred to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
