The Deputy Governor of Uasin Gishu County, Eng. John Barorot, has officially stepped down from his position.
He made this announcement during a meeting with senior county officials at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret, alongside Governor Jonathan Bii.
This resignation follows shortly after Eldoret Town was granted city status, an occasion that Eng. Barorot did not attend.
Additionally, Barorot’s departure occurs in the context of numerous financial fraud cases in Eldoret, where residents are allegedly losing substantial amounts of money to job-related scams and fraudulent individuals.
Barorot’s resignation comes just a week after he refuted allegations regarding his departure from office.
The rumors surfaced following Barorot’s absence from President William Ruto’s event on Thursday, which was held to grant City status to Eldoret, leading to speculation about his situation.
He dismissed the resignation reports as mere rumors but did not provide an explanation for his absence from this significant event in the city.
Concerns have been raised regarding his professional relationship with Governor Bii; however, two weeks ago, during a prayer meeting at the county headquarters, Governor Bii informed attendees that Barorot was on leave.
“I apologize for not mentioning earlier that our Deputy Governor, Engineer Barorot, is currently on leave, but we are united in this endeavor,” he said.
Barorot was largely absent from the preparations for Eldoret’s elevation to City status, participating in only one occasion where he acknowledged the media’s contribution to promoting and branding the new city.
