Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei, on Tuesday, June 20, accused unidentified individuals of spreading false and misleading allegations to injure his reputation.
The lawmaker added that a screenshot of chats incriminating him for demanding a Ksh3 million bribe was photoshopped to suit a selfish agenda.
According to the senator, his phone number was reportedly attached to the chats to scam unsuspecting Kenyans.
“These are desperate individuals who are used to propaganda, blackmail and intimidation,” he described the now-flagged recruitment agency.
“To the victims and families allegedly being conned by the recruitment agency, justice shall be served in the fullness of time,” Cherargei added.
In a screenshot shared by the legislator, a woman was asked to pay Ksh3 million to be protected from the chairperson of an unidentified committee.
The immunity was also to be extended against members of the said body. However, the woman, whose identity was yet to be revealed, was given an ultimatum to send the money by a Tuesday.
Cherargei threatened to take action against the individuals but did not disclose whether he would immediately file a report with the police or flag the accounts pushing the allegedly photoshopped screenshot.
“The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice,” the senator, who is also a lawyer by profession, warned.

Kenyans have also been warned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be wary of recruitment agencies requesting payment to facilitate a job opportunity.
Similarly, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation provided a hotline (0800 722 203) for reporting fraud and embezzlement cases.
