8th Pan-African AYSRHR scientific conference & media engagement brief

The Reproductive Health Network Kenya (RHNK), in partnership with the Ministry of Health – Kenya, is gearing up to host the 8th Pan-African Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (AYSRHR) Scientific Conference from June 24th to 27th, 2025, at the beautiful Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa. This exciting event is set to bring together over 1,000 delegates from more than 30 countries, including key figures from government, academia, civil society, the private sector, youth-led organizations, and international bodies.

Now in its eighth year, this conference has established itself as Africa’s leading platform for meaningful discussions and youth-driven advocacy on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). This year’s theme highlights the pressing need to tackle the growing challenges faced by adolescents and youth, such as unintended pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, early marriage, gender-based violence, and female genital mutilation. Attendees can look forward to engaging plenary sessions, scientific presentations, innovative youth projects, intergenerational dialogues, policy roundtables, and plenty of networking opportunities.

Before the main event kicks off, RHNK hosted a Media Breakfast at the Fairview Hotel in Nairobi. This gathering aims to unite media stakeholders to shape public conversations, elevate youth voices, and rally national and regional support for youth-friendly SRHR services. The discussions will also tackle issues like digital misinformation, the shrinking of civic spaces, and how climate change affects access to health services.

Key speakers at the media breakfast will include:

Dr. Patrick Amoth, Director General for Health, Ministry of Health, Kenya

Dr. Mohamed Sheikh, Director General, National Council for Population and Development (NCPD)

Prof. Joachim Osur, Vice Chancellor, Amref International University

Dr. Edward Serem, Head, Division of Reproductive and Maternal Health, Ministry of Health, Kenya

Nelly Munyasia, Executive Director, RHNK

Media organizations are warmly invited to join us for both the Media Breakfast in Nairobi and the main conference in Mombasa. Accredited journalists will enjoy full access to the conference, including speaker interviews and media kits.

“We’re coming together to ensure that every young person has the health services, education, and support they need to thrive in this increasingly complex world,” shared Nelly Munyasia, Executive Director of RHNK.
