Eric Omondi, renowned Kenyan comedian, has stepped in to assist Stephen Bhingi, also known as Ras Bhingi, after a the recent rain left Bhingi’s house flooded.
Bhingi, who became became popular for his unique way of dressing – an oversized Rasta hat, a crocheted Rasta-colored scarf, Gideon boots, and camouflage pants and jackets, found himself facing significant challenges following the flooding, which gained attention after a video surfaced on April 9.
Moved by Bhingi’s plight, Eric Omondi took to his Instagram account to share Bhingi’s situation and urged the public to offer any assistance they could.,
This act of kindness comes just weeks after Bhingi’s notable meeting with President William Ruto on March 18,that could have marked a sudden turn of events in his life.
In an interview with Nairobi News, Eric Omondi expressed his commitment to improving Bhingi’s circumstances.
“I will help him. If he does not have a job, we will look for something for him to do. He has been entertaining us, and so, he should be happy otherwise he will languish and fall into depression. I want to help where I can. That is what ‘Sisi Kwa Sisi’ is about, it’s about Kenyans coming through for each other through my platform.”
While meeting the Head of State, Bhingi said that he didn’t even have a single chance to speak with the president as he disappeared without mincing a word.
He said that the president only tried to ask his date of birth, but when he attempted to answer, the president was already speaking to another person as his bodyguards told him to move far away from the president.
Born in 1997, Bhingi has been appearing on several media interviews, speaking about his life and how he first fell in love with reggae.
He was among the guests invited for the announcement of monetisation of content on Facebook, Reels, and Instagram when the President met with the Facebook Management Team on Monetisation at State House, Nairobi.
