Rapper Lamaz KOB questions music earnings in Kenya

The renowned rapper and car dealer, Lamaz KOB, has recently expressed his views on the financial realities of being a musician in Kenya.

In a statement that has raised eyebrows, Lamaz KOB claims that the music industry in Kenya doesn’t pay well and that many musicians are exaggerating their lavish lifestyles.

It is no secret that a significant number of musicians in Kenya showcase opulent lifestyles, often attributing them to the proceeds of their music careers.

Notable figures like Khaligraph Jones, who happens to be Lamaz’s younger brother and is involved in the car business, have invested in significant assets, such as building mansions.

However, Lamaz insists that no Kenyan artist is genuinely living solely off their music earnings.

He questions the authenticity of the lifestyles portrayed by many artists, suggesting that some are more focused on seeking attention than making wise investments.

“A lot of musicians are spending money to chase clout rather than making meaningful investments. Many of them have more followers on social media platforms than money in their bank accounts. The truth is that music in Kenya doesn’t pay as much as it might seem,” Lamaz explained.

Lamaz goes a step further, implying that the few artists who do make investments are not necessarily doing so with the earnings from their music careers.

He stated, “Are you certain that the investments they are making come from the money they’ve earned through their music? I don’t believe so. They might be misleading you.”

When asked if his sentiments also apply to his brother, Khaligraph Jones, Lamaz hesitated before giving a diplomatic response.

“I wouldn’t want to discuss my brother. He is pursuing his own path, and I am on my own journey,” he remarked.

Lamaz KOB’s remarks have sparked discussions on the financial dynamics of the Kenyan music industry, raising questions about the source of wealth for many artists who appear to lead extravagant lifestyles.

While it remains a contentious issue, Lamaz’s statement has highlighted the challenges artists face when it comes to earning a substantial income from their music in Kenya.
