The SGR train made its first maiden trip from Nairobi to Mombasa on Monday ahead of its official launch tomorrow.

The launch will be graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta who will also take a ride from Mombasa to Nairobi.

The passenger train left Nairobi at 2.00pm and arrived in Mombasa at around 7.00pm.
The project has been largely billed as the largest infrastructural development since independence.

The train is expected to take at least four hours to travel from Nairobi to Mombasa.
It has a speed capacity of up to 120kph.

According to the feasibility study, SGR will reduce transport costs, compared to road transport, especially as volume increases.
