The death toll for an accident that occurred at Karai Naivasha last night has reached 40.
Among those who died were 11 General Service Unit (GSU) officers who were returning to Nairobi after guarding President Uhuru in a Bomet rally.
The accident occurred after a canter lorry carrying inflammable substances rammed into several vehicles before bursting into flames near Karai on the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway.
Witnesses at the scene said the driver of the tanker lost control and hit the other vehicle which created chain of knocks.
