On Wednesday, President William Ruto released his final list of cabinet nominees.
The nomination comes weeks after the President dismissed his entire cabinet except for Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
The proposed CSs are John Mbadi (National Treasury), Salim Mvurya ( Investment Trade and Industry), Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife), Opiyo Wandayi Energy and Petroleum) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports).
Others are Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy), Alfred Mutua ( Labour and Social Protection), Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives and MSME Development), Justin Muturi (Public Service), and Stella Lang’at (Gender, Culture, Arts & Heritage).
ODM was the biggest winner in the latest cabinet reshuffle, with several members securing key seats in Ruto’s government.
This was despite ODM’s previous statement that its members would not be part of Ruto’s cabinet.
In the new lineup, ODM Chairman John Mbadi will be in control of the country’s finances, while deputy party leaders Joho and Oparanya would be in charge of mining and cooperatives, respectively.
Elsewhere, Ruto amended his list of new Cabinet nominees unveiled on Friday last week moving Aden Duale from the Defence Ministry to the Environment docket.
Soipan Tuya who had been nominated to the Environment Ministry, has been moved to the powerful Defence Ministry.
In response to the reassignment, which caught many by surprise, Duale took to his X account posting,
“I am Grateful to President @WilliamsRuto for reassigning me from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry. I look forward to serving in my new portfolio and ensuring focus is on sustainable environmental management, combating climate change, and promoting reforestation and conservation efforts. Indeed, ‘And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows, but you do not know.’ – Quran 2:216.”
