A businessman allegedly found with 23 Ethiopians who are suspected to have been smuggled into the country is battling human trafficking charges.
The Ethiopians were reportedly busted at a house in Bahati estate within Kamukunji in Nairobi.
Mohamed Isack is accused of trafficking persons contrary to section 3 (1) of the Penal Code as read with section (5) of the Counter-trafficking in Persons Act of 2010.
Issack was arrested by officers from Jogoo police station who were on patrol in the area.
The officers had received information from members of the public about suspicious people living at a house in the area before they raided the house where they found the Ethiopians and arrested the suspect who is alleged to be their host.
They were living in one room when police rescued them.
They did not have any identification or travel documents when they were arrested and have been charged with being unlawfully present in Kenya.
Isack denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi of the Makadara Law Courts and sought lenient bail and bond terms through an advocate.
Police constable Joel Anyona of Buruburu DCI offices sought the matter to be given a hearing priority so that he can avail an interpreter for the two aliens who are listed as witness in the case before they are repatriated.
All the aliens were charged with being unlawfully present in Kenya and are set to be repatriated back to their country.
Issack was granted a bond of Sh300, 000 without an option of a cash bail. The case will be heard from November 3.
Save for the two aliens, the other witnesses are police officers including PC Anyona and two other officers from Jongoo police station who arrested the Ethiopians.
