Diana Museveni Kyaremera, the daughter of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has announced her official divorce from her husband, businessman Geoffrey Kamuntu, after 18 years of marriage.
Despite her initial attempts to maintain privacy surrounding the dissolution of her marriage, Diana felt compelled to address the public to clarify the situation, particularly for the sake of her children.
In a heartfelt statement, Diana acknowledged the emotional toll of divorce, especially when children are involved.
“As you all know, divorce is a very difficult thing, especially when there are children involved,” she added, emphasizing the emotional toll of the process.
She expressed gratitude for the support she has received thus far and appealed to the public for continued understanding and respect for her family’s privacy during this challenging time.
“I ask that the public continues to pray for my family as we move forward from this difficult time and that you will respect our privacy,” she stated.
Prior to the divorce, Diana had formally applied to the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) to drop her husband’s surname, Kamuntu, and adopt her maiden name, Kyaremera.
“Notice is given that I Diana Museveni Kamuntu of P.O box 9021 Kampala, intend to apply to the National Identification Registration Authority to change my name to Diana Museveni Kyaremera.”
Adding: “I intend to formally and absolutely renounce and abandon the use of the name Kamuntu and assume and adopt in place of that name the name Kyaremera,” read part of the notice.
