Moses Nditika is the founder of Tumaini Supermarket.
In a previous interview, he disclosed that he once worked as an attendant for 20 years before branching off and venturing into entrepreneurship.
Nditika remarked that his work at the store provided him with the necessary expertise, patience and knowledge to start and run a small business.
He eventually mustered the guts to confront his then-employer, making a request he believed would be difficult to accept.
“I started as a shop assistant and rose to the position of senior manager in the same company. I gained expertise running a small firm and requested permission to start my own on a small scale. My boss then assisted me in opening the first branch in Pipeline Estate,” he explained.
Nditika, his brother, and a third partner utilized their Ksh 5 million funds to establish the business.

He revealed that an extra Ksh 5 million loan from a sacco helped them get back on their feet.
He stated that beginning a grocery business was not as simple as one might think, as it required a large sum of money, a lot of devotion, and close attention to detail.
The store began operations in 2006 and has grown to six branches by 2014, with a monthly turnover of over Ksh 200 million. In 2019, the shop opened two more outlets at a combined cost of Ksh 200 million.
Tumaini Supermarket expanded to 12 locations across the country, with eight in Nairobi, according to Business Daily on April 23, 2019.
Nditika successfully navigated the company through what has been regarded as a difficult period for the country’s retail sector, as indicated by the departure of Uchumi, Nakumatt and Choppies.
