Michael Matthews is a Kenyan currently living his ambition by leading one of the elite crews in the United States Air Force unit.
Airman First Class Matthews is the crew chief of the C-130 unit in the United States Air Force.
He works with the 75th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron. Matthews’ task involves transporting goods, people and other resources to Kenya.
Matthews was assigned to Djibouti, Africa, with the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, and he was ultimately able to return to Kenya.
He fled the country at the age of five, along with his nine other siblings.
They were compelled to leave the nation owing to family troubles and a marital fight between his parents.
“My dad was abusive; that’s why we had to flee. My memories are vague, but my family would often retell the stories of our experience, our struggle, and our blessings,” he noted.
However, after 20 years of being abroad and serving in an elite unit in the United States, Matthews has been granted the opportunity to relive his memories of his homeland.

When asked about the prospect, he stated unequivocally that he had never anticipated returning to Kenya.
“I never imagined I’d return like this, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to reconnect with my roots,” he said in an interview.
Matthews’ objective is to build ties between Kenya and the other East African countries.
He is also responsible for delivering security and stability to the region.
Other responsibilities include forming alliances between East African states and the United States based on a shared aim to defend the people.
His remarkable narrative of grass to grace exemplifies how East African partnerships create new opportunities and brighter futures for those in need.
