At barely 26 years old, she oozes the confidence of a business magnet and the opulence of a Forbes-listed young entrepreneur.
She carries the air of ‘I have made it’, a subtle arrogance of a rags to riches story, and the smile of a contented broker.
She travels when she feels like it or for ‘work’, and luxury to her is the norm; the sustenance of all these, her flourishing ‘rosecoco enterprise.’
Welcome to the world of Sabina (not her real name); a mother and a businesswoman running a clothing line and a chain of property in Nairobi’s upmarket areas.
“All of my businesses are doing very well, I have a chain of properties within Kilimani that I use as AirBnBs and rentals. My life is not tragic, but I had my share of challenges growing up. I was not fortunate enough to go to university because of financial issues, so eventually I got married when 19,” she says.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Sabina shared that the marriage became abusive and she left with her now six-year-old son; that was how her journey to becoming a high end escort began.
“I was going through a lot, straight out of a relationship and with a child. I went back home and I didn’t leave the house for three months, the day I stepped out was the very day my journey as an escort began,” she narrates.
“I met a man who linked and introduced me to some of his prominent friends who would recommend me to their friends and the money started coming in. These people would host parties once or twice a month and that’s where my clientele base grew.”
With the mass appeal and glorification of what is now being referred to as ‘rosecoco entrepreneurship’ in social platforms, the women in this business portray a soft life lifestyle admired by many. So what is Sabina’s day like?
“I am usually up early in the morning, get my son ready for school, then later lock myself in my bedroom which I use as my office most of the time. I then follow up on business, post content on my social media, and talk to a few clients,” she says.
“Then later on I go out to socialize, if things go well I don’t go back home, but I have a nanny who helps when I am not around and my mother helps with my son too.”
Despite declining to name names, Sabina revealed that her clients are powerful politicians, celebrities, diplomats, and renowned industry leaders.
Most return clients want more than a glorified mannequin bimbo for quick sex, she says, they enjoy being in the company of beauty with brains, someone smart and ambitious.
Also, some generally just want good-looking women that they can travel out of the country with.
“They look for women they would not feel embarrassed about taking to dinner with their business colleagues, the key is to dress nicely and be well-read. The highest amount of money I have ever made with a single client is Ksh.200,000. Men out here have money, just because they are not spending it on you does not mean that they are broke,” she says.
Sabina has a network of around 150 young women, while many desire to be in her inner circle, only a few have access once vetted.
Today, the high-end call girls in her network demand a staggering Ksh.80,000 per night, but the hefty price tag often comes with outrageous and unsafe demands.
“When I started, I did not have anyone to show me the way and how to protect myself. I would get invited to parties and meet strangers and some are memories I would want to forget. The girls in my network share their experiences and alert each other on places and individuals to avoid,” she reveals.
“I would not say I am a pimp because I do not exploit the girls, I just link them to the right people and it is better than randomly selling your body in the streets. When men approach me for ladies, I do not get cuts from the women, only the male clients.”
Although there is little regard for the complexities of being an escort, the overwhelming support she gets online underscores her focus on the soft life gained through being an escort – overlooking the implications that come with the luxurious lifestyle.
“As a beginner, I wasn’t able to protect myself along the way, the least I could do was beg them to use protection. In my line of work, you meet all kinds of people, you get men who are rude, cold, and aggressive. Some people threaten you and so you just sleep with them unwillingly and hope you come out alive. At the end of the day, you go back home, kneel, pray, and thank God that you are back home safe,” she states.
“Some of the clients refuse to pay once they are done and physically abuse the girls when they ask for their money. There are good and bad memories, I choose to focus on the good ones. Also with time, you know your boundaries and what you can and cannot do.”
Although Sabina had tried to keep her source of income from her family, she says her mother found out through social media, and like most parents she was disappointed.
“I had to sit down with her and explain to her what I do, of course, she did not like it. I do not expect any parent to understand but it is what I do. I am hustling for my child, the sad part is that you cannot erase the memory whether good or bad, I try to live for the good and know that I am doing all this for my baby,” she says.
