“Gospel ni umalaya tupu” KRG The Don calls out immorality among Kenyan gospel artistes

Renowned Kenyan dancehall artist Stephen Karuga Kimani, popularly known as KRG The Don, has criticized the Kenyan gospel music sector for its alleged lack of authenticity and morality. KRG The Don, known for his hit “Mambo Imechemka,” made these remarks during an online conversation that has since sparked widespread debate.

KRG The Don did not hold back in his critique, asserting that the Kenyan gospel industry is plagued by deceit and jealousy, factors he believes have hindered its development compared to the gospel scene in neighboring Tanzania. He pointed out that many gospel musicians in Kenya are entangled in immoral activities, particularly adultery, which he claims is rampant within the industry.

KRG The Don’s take

In his speech, KRG The Don urged gospel musicians to cease their backstabbing and jealousy, advocating instead for unity and support within the community. He added that there is need for artists to collaborate and uplift each other rather than tearing each other down.

Gospel ni umalaya tupu. Hakuna kitu ya ujinga hii Nairobi kama gospel. Ndio wana fitina na wivu kuliko wasee wa secular,” KRG The Don said, condemning the hypocrisy he perceives in the gospel industry. He called on Christians to reflect on their actions, especially their reluctance to forgive and support those struggling with issues like alcoholism.

Si kwa sababu wewe ni mwerevu kwa nini ukasirikia mlevi na mlevi hajui? Tuache unafiki. Unafikiri ni kitu kibaya,” he added, stressing the damaging effects of hypocrisy within the gospel community.

KRG The Don’s comments come shortly after similar sentiments were made by former gospel singer Willy Paul, who recently revealed that the toxic environment in the gospel industry almost drove him to suicide. Willy Paul listed issues such as non-payment for performances and the duplicity of preachers and fellow musicians more concerned with money than with spiritual integrity.
