Kanze Dena: How my friend drove me to alcohol addiction

During an interview with Parents Magazine, former State House spokesperson Kanze Dena shared a surprising story from her past, where she narrated how a friend’s bad advice led to one of her most regrettable experiences. Kanze Dena, who has always been open about her journey to success, recounted events of the evening that started just well but ended up being a pivotal moment in her life.

Fresh out of high school, Kanze Dena began working as a waitress in a Nairobi restaurant. It was during this period, while coping with the challenges of her new job and city life, that she received what she describes as the worst advice from a friend.

“One evening, after a long shift, we were caught in heavy traffic. My friend suggested we wait it out at a nearby club,” Dena recalled. The seemingly harmless suggestion led to an unexpected outcome. “I had my first Pilsner, then the second, and the third. We found ourselves finishing the whole crate!” she revealed.

How Kanze Dena’s life changed

She admitted to have been drawn to the beer because of its captivating advertisements on local TV stations. That night marked her first significant encounter with alcohol. She admitted that the friend’s bad advice to take alcohol changed her life forever. However, contrary to expectations, it changed her life to the better. Kanze says it was a wake-up call to get saved. “God redeemed me. Thank you, Jesus,” she said, reflecting on how her faith helped her turn her life around. “I don’t drink anymore”, she added.
