Kakamega Homeboyz scored in stoppage time to claim a 3-2 Football Kenya Federation Premier League win over Gor Mahia at Kasarani on Wednesday.
The result, together with Tusker’s 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers, means the season’s champion will be decided on the final day.
The loss is a big setback in Gor Mahia’s dream of lifting their record 20th Premier League title.
Unlike his Gor Mahia counterpart, Patrick Odhiambo fielded his players who just came back from national duties with Harambee Stars. Robinson Kamura maintained his place at the heart of the defence while Moses Shummah led the attack.
Benson Omala, who was handed his senior debut, and Boniface Omondi were dropped to the bench for Gor Mahia.
Meanwhile, much of the action took place in the midfield in the opening nine minutes, and Gor Mahia were the first to attempt a real attack.
John Macharia and Odhiambo showed some brilliance, but Homeboyz managed to prevent them from wrecking havoc as the intensity of the game grew.
However, the visitors conceded in the 11th minute when Kaddu found the back of the net. Homeboyz defence looked disorganized when Gor Mahia pressed, and this gave the Ugandan a perfect chance to score.
After conceding the goal, Homeboyz showed some urgency, but Gor Mahia’s defence, particularly Geoffrey Ochieng and Paul Ochuoga, stood firm and cleared all the danger.
Gor Mahia came close to scoring the second in the 34th minute, but Kaddu – in a promising position – slipped while he attempted to make a connection with a pinpoint pass from Odhiambo.
Homeboyz equalized in the 35th minute when Gor Mahia failed to clear their lines. Robinson Kamura did well to keep the ball while his players took positions along the Gor Mahia box. The Harambee Stars defender then released it for Sifuna, who took a few steps before he slotted past Gad Mathews.
