The Kirinyaga County Woman Representative, Jane Njeri Maina, was elected in the general election of 2022 while running on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) platform.
She attended Kiangoma Primary School before transferring to Kabare Girls High School for her senior education, where she excelled and earned a university degree.
Njeri was born in 1994 in the Ndia Constituency of Kirinyanga County.
Afterwards, she enrolled at the University of Nairobi and earned a legal degree.
Njeri later enrolled at the Kenya School of Law following her undergraduate studies in order to pursue a postgraduate diploma in law, which she finished in 2019.
She was then admitted to the bar and appointed an advocate of the Kenyan High Court.
Njeri worked in a variety of fields prior to politics, including music, entrepreneurship and the legal profession.
In a Facebook post, she noted that she chose to get into the mitumba industry because she needed more money than what her parents were giving her back on campus.
She revealed that, since she didn’t have a physical store, she would go to Gikomba in the morning, buy the best clothes, and then resell them online.
“Looking back, I realized that I had sold mtush on campus because I’ve always wanted to save a small amount of money aside for myself. The internet market used to be flourishing
“Since it was novel, there was a chance to take advantage of it. I’d get up and get to Gikosh by six a.m., being on campus at the time, just in time for the ‘camera’ mtush pick,” she revealed.

Njeri later signed up with Grandpa Record to try her hand at the music industry while she was still a student but the negative response forced her to end her career.
She started working for Amandi and Associates Advocates in 2013 as a legal researcher/intern, which was her first official job.
Njeri held the role until 2014, at which point she relocated to Kiambu Law Courts to work as a legal researcher.
She began working for Lilian Amere & Company Advocates in 2018 and continued there through 2019, and then proceeded to work as a legal researcher for Moraa Omoke & Company Advocates before joining Mathenge Wambogu and Company Advocates as the Head of Litigation.
Njeri went on to establish Njeri Maina Law Advocates in 2021, and currently holds the position of Managing Partner.
On her political career, Njeri noted that she had not considered running until former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici said she would not seek reelection.
She defeated well-known opponents like former County Director of Administration Shujaa Rose Wachira and County Assembly Speaker Anne Githinji to win the position.
Njeri became one of the nation’s youngest legislators ever after her victory.
Her pivotal moment came when she refused to support the 2024 Finance Bill, even though her party was pressuring its members to vote in favor of it.
