Empowering African Businesses: Partnership between ICT and Marketing Industries

The ICT and marketing industries have joined forces to empower businesses across Africa by leveraging technology for economic stability and brand resilience. Through a partnership between the Technology Information Confederation Africa (TICON), African Marketing Confederation (AMC), ICT Association of Kenya (ICTAK), and Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK), the aim is to elevate standards in ICT and marketing amidst cyber security concerns, technological advancements, and economic uncertainty.

Africa holds vast amounts of data, yet its potential remains largely untapped in overcoming economic uncertainty. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the African datasphere is projected to grow by 67% annually by 2025. However, with increased digitalization comes rising cyber security threats. Cyberattacks in Africa surged by 66% in 2023, highlighting the need for stronger cyber security frameworks and data privacy regulations.

Speaking at the launch event in Nairobi Serena Hotel, Dr. Adrian Kamotho Njenga PhD, Secretary General of ICTAK, emphasized the transformative nature of the partnership. He stated, “Today, we unite ICT and marketing experts to drive economic growth and address real-world challenges. This collaboration will harness digital innovations to benefit communities across the continent, fostering sustainable development and future readiness.”

The partnership aims to equip African businesses with the tools to navigate complex landscapes by combining expertise from both sectors. Beyond skills exchange, it fosters a platform for knowledge sharing. ICT professionals will contribute expertise on data security and privacy, crucial for building trust in the digital age. Marketing professionals will share knowledge on ethical marketing practices, ensuring transparency and responsible consumer engagement.

Zuhura Odhiambo, Chairperson of MSK, highlighted the importance of embracing the convergence of marketing and technology. She stated, “In today’s digital age, technology offers marketers unprecedented opportunities to engage with consumers. This collaboration underscores the critical importance of embracing this convergence.”

The partnership conference will explore strategies to strengthen digital infrastructure and access across Africa, reinforcing collaboration between ICT and marketing professionals.

In conclusion, the partnership between the ICT and marketing industries signifies a commitment to empowering African businesses. By leveraging technology and expertise, the aim is to drive economic growth, address challenges, and foster a future-ready ecosystem across the continent.
