The Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB) achieved a significant milestone at the Bomas of Kenya as it certified 708 new Certified Human Resource Professionals (CHRP) during its 5th CHRP Certification Ceremony. This landmark event highlighted HRMPEB’s unwavering commitment to elevating HR standards and emphasized the vital role certified professionals play in transforming Kenya’s workforce.
The ceremony’s guest of honor, Justin Muturi, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, lauded the newly certified professionals for their dedication to excellence in HR. “Certified HR professionals are not just managers; they are the custodians of organizational culture and champions of employee well-being,” Muturi stated, reiterating the government’s support for HR professionals as a driving force in Kenya’s socio-economic advancement.
Following Muturi’s address, HRMPEB Acting CEO CHRP Margaret Nguu celebrated the board’s achievements and noted the significance of this year’s certification, which includes the first cohort trained under a new, updated curriculum. “Today, we celebrate the resilience of our graduates and the dedication of our institution, partners, and stakeholders who have propelled us forward,” she said. This year’s class, comprising 159 men and 549 women, embodies the diverse talent steering Kenya’s HR landscape.
Reflecting on HRMPEB’s evolution from a modest start to a robust organization, Nguu highlighted recent milestones, including digital transformations and a new headquarters at Mwalimu Towers. “From strategic planning and curriculum updates to expanded staff recruitment, each step has strengthened our capacity to support HR professionals,” Nguu emphasized, noting that HRMPEB’s journey has not been without challenges, yet resilience and commitment have driven success.
This ceremony marked a personal milestone for Nguu, as it was her final certification event as Acting CEO. “Leading HRMPEB has been deeply fulfilling,” she shared. “Seeing the drive and dedication of each graduate assures me of a bright future for HR in Kenya.” Nguu encouraged the graduates to uphold a legacy of integrity and passion as they shape Kenya’s HR standards.
The ceremony also celebrated key partnerships with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) and the Ministry of Public Service. Nguu acknowledged the Ministry’s financial support and IHRM’s collaboration in maintaining HR standards. “Our achievements are the result of steadfast partnerships and a dedicated team,” she affirmed.
HRMPEB’s recent advancements include a new strategic plan, the launch of a student portal for efficient services, and the accreditation of over 50 CHRP training institutions. Starting in 2025, the board will offer three examination windows per year, providing flexibility for professionals seeking certification.
The CHRP certification, recognized by IHRM and gazetted in the Kenya Gazette, symbolizes expertise and competency in HR. Additionally, accreditation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has enhanced the certification’s global stature, opening international opportunities for Kenya’s HR practitioners.
In her closing remarks, Nguu reaffirmed HRMPEB’s commitment to Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the G4 agenda, expressing her confidence in the graduates’ future impact. “HRMPEB is in capable hands, and our best days lie ahead,” she concluded.
The event concluded with the 708 newly certified HR professionals ready to embark on their careers, equipped to influence and lead within Kenya’s evolving workforce.
