Police officers on Tuesday, July 25, apprehended the primary suspect in the murder case of Rahab Karisa, the Chief Officer for Fisheries and Blue Economy in Kilifi County, Kenya.
According to detectives investigating the case, the arrest took place along the Kenya-Uganda border after the suspect fled to Western Kenya to evade capture.
Despite her attempts to escape into Uganda, the detectives successfully tracked her down and intercepted her just in time.
The suspect had been seeking directions to cross into the neighbouring country and had already arranged for a motorbike to facilitate her escape.
However, upon seeing the maid carrying her belongings, the motorbike rider immediately recognised her and tipped off police officers in Busia who subsequently arrested her.
The suspect was detained at the border office till 6 am when officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took her in.
Coast DCI boss Ali Bule also confirmed the arrest adding the suspect was transported to Kilifi for further interrogations to unravel the murder.
According to Karisa’s husband, Maxwell Mmera, his wife was stabbed by the maid following a confrontation over the disappearance of household items.
Karisa had just jetted back into the country from Europe when she threatened to hand over the maid to the police over the minor dispute.
A few days later, the husband in a short heartfelt statement shared sensitive details about her wife’s autopsy.
He expressed regret that he was not able to protect his wife who he described as a friend and the love of his life. Mmera revealed that they were to meet on June 22 (two days after her death) to celebrate her birthday.
“There was a 13cm deep cut inside at your back below the scapula with a v-cut (meaning either double stab or stab and side pull, as per the pathologist), straight into the artery and part of lungs,” the statement read in part.
